Puttarisi Puttu Urundai

Puttu urundai made with sivappu puttarisi are very nutritious. I have given the preparation of the flour in my basics blog. If you are keen on preparing this at home, please go through the step wise pictures there. Here is the link for the recipe. I made this yesterday for the day 1 of Navrathri as an offering to Goddess Sakti during evening. This is very easy to make and quite addictive. Here is the Navarathri Day 1 Post.

Ingredients:
Makes 10 urundais
Sivappu Puttu Flour-1/2 cup
SUgar-1/3 cup
Grated Fresh Coconut-1/2 cup
Cardamom Powder-1/4 tsp

Procedure:
1. Sprinkle water and crumble the puttu flour until it is wet. Be careful while sprinkling. We don't want a dough.
2. You should be able to make a ball out of the flour, but it needs to be crumbly. Do not knead it into a dough. Grind it in a mixer to get rid of any lumps.
3. Transfer the flour to a cotton cloth.
4. Bundle it up and steam cook for 15- 20 minutes.
5. Remove from the cloth and transfer it to a large plate/ thambalam.
6. Add sugar, cardamom powder and coconut.
7. Mix it well.
8. Divide into 10 equal portions and shape each into a laddu.
9. Alternately you can serve it in a bowl with a spoon.

Sprinkle water in the flour.

Crumble it with your fingers.

The flour must be wet but not like a dough. When held in hand together, it should form a crumbly ball.

Grind it in a mixer.

Transfer to a cotton cloth.

Steam cook for 15-20 minutes.

Remove from steamer.

Transfer to a plate and add other ingredients.

Mix well.

Make balls.

Arrange on a plate.

Serve or use it as an offering during pooja.
