Tilkut Ladoo

For the third day of Blogging Marathon#11, I tried the famous Bihari sweet-Tilkut Ladoo. These are prepared for Makar Sankranti. Tilkut is actually till gud which translates into sesame seeds and jaggery. It is very easy to prepare. After shaping the ladoos let it air dry for 4-5hours before storing in airtight jar. This stays good for 3months. I saw the recipe's hindi version at Nishamadhulika.com. Today I had been to my sister-in-law's house. I prepared these ladoos there and there were so many kids who were happy to relish these ladoos.

Recipe Source: Nishamadhulika
Ingredients:
White Sesame Seeds-2cups
Grated Jaggery-1cup
Broken Cashew-3tbs
Cardamom Powder-a pinch
Ghee-2-3tbs

Procedure:
1. Roast the sesame seeds until they start popping.
2. Grind it to a coarse powder.
3. Take jaggery and 2tbs water in a pan.
4. Heat it until the jaggery melts.
5. Filter the syrup to get rid of impurities.
6. Bring the syrup to boil.
7. Add the cashew, cardamom and sesame seeds and mix thoroughly.
8. Switch off flame and transfer contents to a plate and allow it to cool.
9. Apply little ghee on hands and shape ladoos with the mixture.
10. To make the shaping easier, first with a spoon, scoop out portions on to another plate.
11. Then with greased hands, press each portion into a rough ball.
12. If the sesame seeds stick to your hand, allow it to dry a little more.
13. Roll out the rough ball into a smooth ball with clean greased hand.
14. Allow it to dry for 4-5hours.
15. Store in airtight jar.

Mix coarsely ground sesame with cashew and cardamom powder

Bring the jaggery syrup to boil

Add the sesame mix to the syrup and mix well

Shape the mixture into small ladoos

Serve and Enjoy
