Wheat and Oats Bread

This is an easy to prepare bread roll which is very healthy because of oats and atta. I am sending this to Eat Well Live Well event going on in Taste of Pearl City and Bread With Grains event going on in Zesty South Indian Kitchen. The baked bread should be served while warm. When it cools it becomes a little hard because of the thick crust. I used honey instead of sugar mentioned in the original recipe. I don't remember the source of this recipe because the recipe book is a very old one maintained by me during my college days i.e nearly 12 years old. I have been preparing this for 12 long years but only with all purpose flour. For the sake of both the events I substituted a part of flour with atta and oats. The result was lovely. You could never guess the addition of oats in the bread. It was very soft inside with a crispy crust. But remember to serve while still hot.

Ingredients:

Wheat Flour / Atta-3/4cup
Oats-3/4cup
Maida / All Purpose Flour-3/4cup
Ghee-2tbs
Instant Yeast-2tsp
Honey-3tsp
Salt-1tsp
Warm Milk-1cup

Procedure:

1. Add all the ingredients except milk in a bowl and mix well.
2. Add the milk and prepare a soft dough.
3. Knead the dough for 15 minutes till soft and elastic.
4. Cover with damp cloth and allow to rise for 2 hours.
5. Punch down dough and divide it into 8 or 9 equal sized balls.
6. Shape them into rounds or cylinders and arrange them on a greased baking tray.
7. Allow it to rice for another 30 minutes.
8. With a knife make a cross incision on round rolls and a vertical incision on cylinderical rolls. Do not cut too deep.
9. Brush milk on the rolls and bake in a preheated oven at 175C till the crust is golden brown.
10. Serve hot with gravy for dinner.
